Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy in Bellevue WA
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a relatively new treatment designed to aid in the healing and regeneration of soft tissues such as tendons and ligaments, and has also been found to work well in the treatment of pain, hair loss and even in facial rejuvenation! La Belle Anti-Aging and Wellness Clinic in Bellevue, WA, is excited to offer a variety of PRP Therapy treatments.
What is PRP?
Human blood is made up of RBC (Red Blood Cells), WBC (White Blood Cells), Plasma, and Platelets. Platelets were initially known to be responsible for blood clotting, but in the last 20 years it has been discovered that when activated in the body, platelets release healing proteins called growth factors.
There are many growth factors with varying responsibilities, however cumulatively they accelerate tissue and wound healing. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is most simply defined as a volume of plasma that has a platelet count above the baseline of whole blood. By increasing the baseline concentration of these platelets, a powerful cocktail of growth factors is formed that can be utilized to dramatically enhance tissue recovery. PRP is virtually a cocktail of many proteins that collectively stimulate repair and regeneration.
In PRP treatment, the patient’s own blood is taken with a simple blood draw, just like a routine blood test. Then, using a special centrifuge machine, this blood is spun down to separate out and concentrate the platelets and growth factors that are essential for tissue healing. Nothing else is added to the patient’s own blood products so there is no risk of allergy, reaction or rejection. PRP therapy is a purely natural process using the body’s own healing factors.
The two basic steps in preparing PRP include an initial “soft” spin in a centrifugal separator to divide out plasma and platelets from red and white cells, followed by a “hard” spin that further concentrates the platelets into platelet-rich plasma (PRP) components. The key is the capacity of the centrifuge machine that is used, which can separate the platelet layer, and provide the largest number of platelets for best results. At La Belle, we are proud to use the Harvest system, which recovers 80% of the patient’s baseline platelets, whereas other systems only are able to cover 42-62%. With this system, the largest number of platelets are available for injection, and that means the most growth factor concentration will be delivered to the patient. This optimizes healing and the best results that can be delivered.
We offer PRP Treatment at La Belle Anti-Aging and Wellness Clinic for a variety of healing and rejuvenation services, including Hair Loss and Thinning, Pain, Tissue Healing, and a Natural Facelift.
PRP for Hair Loss and Thinning
PRP is an exciting non-surgical therapeutic option for patients who require stimulation of hair growth for hair loss or thinning.
PRP is taken from your body and is specially prepared by spinning down the blood cells to a high concentration. After centrifugation, the platelets and other vital growth proteins raise to the top of the tube. Under a topical anesthesia, the highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is then injected into the scalp and applied topically.
PRP contains many growth factors that stimulate the hair follicle’s growth. Some patient’s chose to have PRP performed every three (3) to four (4) months as early data suggests regular or semiannual PRP treatments can stimulate hair growth.
PRP for Skin Esthetics & Rejuvenation
Revolutionizing Damaged & Aged Skin
The PRP Face Lift is a noninvasive in-office procedure where small amount of your blood is drawn from your arm. Microinjections are done on your face and/or neck after brief topical anesthetic cream application. Minimal irritation, redness, swelling or bruising may occur although rare, and the majority of patients do not feel anything at all.
The PRP Facelift utilizes your own natural growth factors and other cytokines to give your skin texture, tone, glow, tightness and fullness. Within a few days after the injections, your growth factors are released and begin to make new collagen, fibrin matrix, angiogenesis and new cells. Your skin becomes more youthful and vibrant looking, with less wrinkles and lines. This is all natural, using your own growth factors— no synthetic fillers or toxins are used and no surgery is required. There are no allergic reactions as may occur with synthetic fillers and toxins.
Also the PRP Facelift is a simple, reliable and quick procedure and can be done during lunch time within 30 minutes. It gives great results and glow to your skin. It is all natural, utilizing your own growth factors with no synthetic products or surgery—your own blood does the job. This procedure does not cause bumps, lumps or irregularities. And the effect can last up to one to two years.
PRP for Pain & Injury
Platelet rich plasma therapy (or PRP injections) is a new treatment that relieves pain by promoting long lasting healing of musculoskeletal conditions. This rapidly emerging technique is showing exciting potential with osteoarthritis of the knee, shoulder, hip and spine, rotator cuff tears, chronic plantar fasciitis, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries, pelvic pain and instability, back and neck injuries, tennis elbow, ankle sprains, tendonitis, and ligament sprains.
The body’s natural first response to soft tissue injury is to deliver platelet cells. Packed with growth and healing factors, platelets initiate repair and attract the critical assistance of stem cells. Platelet Rich Plasma therapy’s natural healing process intensifies the body’s efforts by delivering a higher concentration of platelets into and around the point of injury, jump-starting and significantly strengthening the body’s natural healing signal. Because your own blood is used, there is no risk of a transmissible infection and a very low risk of allergic reaction.
PRP therapy takes approximately thirty minutes to two hours depending on the problem areas being treated, including preparation and recovery time. PRP injections relieve pain without the risks of surgery, general anesthesia, or hospital stays and without a prolonged recovery. In fact, most people return to their jobs or usual activities right after the procedure.
Initial improvement may be seen within a few weeks, gradually increasing as the healing progresses. Research studies and clinical practice have shown Platelet Rich Plasma therapy to be very effective at relieving pain and returning patients to their normal lives. Both ultrasound and MRI images have shown definitive tissue repair after PRP therapy, confirming the healing process. The need for surgery can also be greatly reduced by treating injured tissues before the damage progresses and the condition is irreversible.
